SoWhatAboutJesus? Statement of Belief

Who Do You say JESUS is?

SoWhatAboutJesus? and Speak to My People Ministries upholds the following statement of faith:

  • There is one God who exists in three equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is a God of love and justice. He is also the Creator of all things who sustains everything by His power and governs everything with wisdom.
  • God has given a revelation of Himself in the Bible, which was inspired in its entirety by God who used human writers to write it. The Bible therefore contains no error and is the final authority regarding doctrine, the lifestyle of the believer and the nature of God.
  • Human beings have all fallen short in terms of God’s standard of behaviour and need forgiveness. In the eyes of God, all races and nationalities are equal and salvation is offered equally to all.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was without sin and died on the cross in order to take the punishment of sinners. He rose from the dead and is now seated on the right-hand side of the Father in glory. He now intercedes for His people in the presence of the Father.
  • Salvation cannot be earned by good works, but is a gift of God to those who believe in the redeeming death of Jesus Christ and repent of their sins. When a person is saved, he/she is born again or receives a new nature from God. Those who are saved will dwell and reign with God forever. Those who refuse salvation will spend eternity separated from God and in a state of punishment.
  • When Jesus left the earth, the Holy Spirit was sent to the earth to convict sinners of their sin and indwell believers in order to lead them into all truth and change them into the likeness of Jesus.
  • The Church is the body of Christ and is made up of all true believers, regardless of their denomination and theological persuasion. It is the purpose of Jesus to bring His body into true unity.
  • Baptism is the immersion of believers in water as a symbol of their cleansing from their former lives and their re-birth with a new nature from God. Communion is a remembrance of the redemptive death of Jesus.

Why did Jesus choose to die and how should we respond? Can we be sure that Jesus came back from the dead? Why did Jesus choose to die and how should we respond?
